Fix IE icon in Start Menu

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Go into the registry and look for the registry key…

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\IEXPLORE.EXE\DefaultIcon

I’ll bet yours looks as mine did and has…

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe,-7.

What it should be is…

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe,-32528

Reboot. Problem solved.

How many Tabs in Internet Explorer 7

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

I am running windows Vista Business with Internet Explorer 7.  I did a Google Search for how many tabs can be open at once.  Nothing came up off the top so I decided to do an experiment.  I started opening tabs and got to 150 and it wouldn’t open any more.  So I checked my memory and it seemed to have about 99% full but I had a remote desktop application running.  So I shut that down and was back to 96% full memory.  It still wouldn’t let me open another tab.  So apparently you can only open 150 tabs in IE 7 under Vista.  I even opened another browser to type this blog entry and it worked.

Outlook MinToTray

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

*disclaimer*

This is a registry hack and if used improperly can mess up your stuff.  Meuchel Computer Services is not responsible for misuse

*end disclaimer*

This hack is to minimize Microsoft Outlook to the system tray instead of to the task bar.  It is good for keeping things clean.

Put the following in a notpad document and save as MinToTray.reg make sure to leave off the .txt extention. Then double click to import to registry.  So far this has worked with Office 2003 and 2007 for me.

“The system is not fully installed.” After sysprep.

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

This apparently is due to installing Windows Media Player 11 before sysprep.

This resolution is partially from Microsoft’s recommeded work around. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320279

  • Boot from Bart’s PE or some other custom PE
  • Load REGEDIT
  • Select HKEY_USERS
  • File.. Load Hive..
  • Browse to the \WINDOWS\System32\Config\System on the installed system.
  • Name the hive “TempSystem” or whatever you like
  • Open the Setup key on the newly loaded hive and locate SystemSetupInProgress.
  • Change the data from 1 to 0.
  • Unload the Hive
  • Reboot to Safemode
  • Remove Windows Media Player 11
  • Reboot to Normal Mode
  • CTRL+SHIFT+F3 to re-enter audit mode
  • Then Reseal with sysprep
